Dr James Lawrence is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician, having completed his specialist training with the Australasian College of Sports Physicians. He was recipient of the College Medal for high achievement in the Fellowship examinations in 2014.
He has expertise in the management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, including tendon, muscle and joint injuries, as well as medical problems as they apply to sport, exercise and altitude. He sees dancers of all ages and ability. Regular involvement in youth and development squads across multiple sports, as well as provision of sports medicine cover to Shore School, have led to an interest and expertise in child and adolescent injuries.
Informing patients about the nature of their problem, combined decision making and good communication with other members of the treating medical team are the cornerstones of James’ practice.
James has been involved in a number of elite level sporting organisations:
Chief Medical Officer with Sydney FC (2015-2020)
Sports physician to Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre
Provider to Australian Rowing Team and NSWIS athletes
Expedition Doctor at Inspired Adventures
Paralympic Winter Sport
James also has a strong interest in Expedition and Wilderness medicine. He currently consults to an adventure travel company, for which he has provided medical cover on treks to Mt Kilimanjaro and Peru. As such he has an interest in altitude medicine and has published research on this topic.
A doctor’s referral is required to see Dr Lawrence in clinic, and he will correspond with your GP, physiotherapist, coach or other treating practitioner as needed to optimise a multidisciplinary approach to your care.
