  • BMed (Dist) MMed FRANZCO Dr Downie is a consultant ophthalmologist with subspeciality training in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery, ocular oncology and cataract. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Newcastle with Distinction, and completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney. She completed ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She was the Professorial Senior Registrar. at the Sydney Eye Hospital, and Senior Registrar at Liverpool and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals, gaining experience in the management of patients with complex medical and surgical eye conditions. Dr Downie completed a Fellowship in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal, and Cataract surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital in London where she gained experience in Mohs surgery reconstruction of periocular skin cancers, working with the St John’s Dermatology unit at Guy’s Hospital, London. Dr Downie then completed a Fellowship in Ocular Oncology at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, the preeminent centre for ocular oncology in Europe. She gained expertise in managing ocular surface cancers, and intraocular tumours, including melanoma, naevi, vascular tumours and retinoblastomas. Dr Downie is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). She has published in the peer-reviewed medical literature and has presented at national and international conferences. She is committed to teaching and research and continues to be involved with the registrar training program at the Sydney Eye Hospital. Dr Downie is committed to clinical and surgical excellence, and the care and involvement of patients and their families in decision making during their management.
